The Spanish Language

Spanish is the official language in 21 countries around the world.

Besides, according to the number of native speakers, it is the second most spoken language in the world: There are over 500 million native speakers of the Spanish language!

Spanish is the fourth most spoken language in the world by total speakers (i.e. including people who speak Spanish as a second or third language).

Even though there are several Spanish variants with similarities and differences, these are the most important ones:

European Spanish (Castilian): It is the variant spoken in Spain.

Latin American Spanish (LATAM): It is spoken in Central & South America.

In these two variants, there are some differences in pronunciation, vocabulary (and slang words), and grammar.

US Spanish: In the United States, Spanish is the second most popular language, since about 13% of the total population of the United States (around 40 million people) speak Spanish. This Spanish variant differs from the others, since it has adopted some English rules, namely the use of the Imperial or British measurement system and different numeric formats.

If you are thinking about targeting a Spanish-speaking audience, it is important to know that there are some Spanish variants in order to provide the best customer experience for a specific locale.
